Vision Statement:
The Department of Economics is relatively young, having commenced as an independent unit after April 2003. Prior to April 2003, the Department was part of the Public Management and offered three service courses in the area of economics. During the academic year 2004, the Department began to offer a fourth course at the Bachelor's degree level for the Department of Public Management.

Mission Statement:
The Department of Economics strives to train practical oriented Economists so as to contribute significantly to the national manpower requirements of Namibia and the region as a whole.

Curriculum:
As part of its strategic plan 2004-2008, the Department of Economics is currently in the process of developing an academic degree programme. The development of the curriculum and the course syllabi respectively has reached an advanced stage and it is hoped that the programme will be introduced at the beginning of the academic year 2005. It is also hoped that the Department will initially begin by offering its programme on full time and part time modes of learning but that the programme will be introduced on Distance Education mode soon afterwards, after certain basic facilities have been put in place.

Besides, the Department hopes to design and launch short term courses in certain specialized areas such as Health Economics, Transport Economics, Urban Economics etc.
