6th GREAT TEACHERS’ WORKSHOP - 7th to 11th July 2008
------------------------------------------------------------------
Centre:Teaching & Learning (CTL)
The CTL, in promoting excellence in teaching and Learning, commenced the year with an informative orientation session for academic and administrative staff. The orienta- tion, while introducing new employees to senior management as well as institutional policies, rules and regulations, also prepared academic staff for the challenges ahead.

The CTL enjoyed considerable support from faculty. The second Polytechnic Great Teachers Workshop (PGTW), was held in July under the theme: "The Art of Great Teaching: A Work in Progress." Faculty led all discussions, workshops and activities during the week-long event.

Recognising that teaching is an art that must be nurtured continuously, the CTL provided personalized mentoring and a wide variety of departmental and campus-wide workshops and seminars throughout the year, including: Presentation Skills, Small Group Instructional Diagnosis, Instructional Design, Improvement of Student Learn- ing, Subject Assessment, The Use of the Internet for Research, PowerPoint, Web Design and Development, and Database Management.

In addition to several research activities, the Staff Development Day
(SDD) highlited the contribution of faculty to the discourse on research at the Polytechnic. It was held under the theme: "Creating, and Sharing Knowledge". This was in support of a culture and enviroment conducive to applied research.
