Training for SMEs
As with institutional training, SME courses will be categorized into three tiers to appropriately address the needs of SMEs. Courses will be offered according to the following levels:

Beginners:
The courses will target aspiring entrepreneurs participating in business for the first time and who have no understanding of the basics of business and with low to medium literacy levels

Intermediate:
Curricula for this category will be designed to suit individuals who are already involved in business, but have little or no relevant skills. This group will be highly literate and near fluency in English.

Advanced Courses:
Target people who are already in business and want specialized skills.

Currently the CED is able to offer seminars and workshops to SMEs in the following areas:
Starting and managing small and medium business enterprises
Maintaining simple bookkeeping accounts and budgets
Cash flow projections and interpretation of financial statements
Writing business plans
Portfolio development
Costing, pricing and profit concepts
Risk assessment
Training SMEs service providers
Creation of an Entrepreneurship Culture

This section targets the general public and the Polytechnic community.

Within the Polytechnic, the CED promotes and encourages the inclusion of entrepreneurial modules in the curricula offered in the four PoN Schools. The CED together with the Centre for Teaching and Learning will work closely to ensure that quality entrepreneurial modules are unique to each of the disciplines and are developed and implemented.

For the general public, CED will organize and facilitate discussion forums, seminars and workshops on different aspects on entrepreneurship.

The Resource Centre
The CED is in the process of establishing an information centre equipped with modern local, regional and international business literature and other materials such as videos and tapes to address the information needs of SMEs. Additionally, the Information Centre will serve as a one-stop centre that will provide SMEs access to basic equipment necessary for communication and other business. The Centre will have a counselor on duty to provide diagnostic and mentorship services to the SMEs. Preferably the services of the counselor will be offered on request and by appointment.

In addition, the CED will provide the following information necessary for business start up:
All rules and laws that apply to business registration
in general as well as by sector;
A peer response database;
Class list and curriculum of all CED courses for SMEs

Internet Café
The Internet café is housed in the CED resource centre. The Internet café is open to the public on weekdays from 08H00 to 16H00 at a charge of N$10-00 per Hour . There is assistance available in the centre as to the opening of new e-mail for SME and general computer operations. The Polytechnic of Namibia is having its own server thus the navigating process is very fast.
